LIBRARY
The Indraprastha Library strives to create a
lively and enriching intellectual environment for students. Its collections
cater to both the students' academic and recreational requirements. The Library
has an ICT Centre and the library's catalogues are fully computerised. The sophisticated
information management system is user-friendly and available for access to
students and faculty. A fully electronic Audio-Visual Room has been recently
added to the Library. Additionally, students now have free access to the
Internet and to the latest international journals and research materials across
disciplines, through the recently established link to Delhi University's
'delnet' network. Recently renovated, the library has a
comprehensive collection of over 1,00,000 books, 6700 bound journals, 21 sets
of encyclopaedias, 82 current journals and magazines, and 21 daily newspapers.
The open stack system, reference section, book bank, spacious reading room, and
cubicles for independent study are all intended to create a hospitable space
for students and researchers. The library is open on all working days between
8:30 a.m.and 7:30 p.m. Membership of the library is
mandatory for the students and they are encouraged to be active users of its
facilities. A lift will soon be added to facilitate movement within the Library
for the physically disabled.
About the Institution
Indraprastha College for Women is the oldest women's college of the University of Delhi and was founded in 1924 as a part of nation-wide campaign for women's education and empowerment. Today this prestigious College has an enrolment of over 2200 students and offers a wide range of courses and activities.
In its drive to constantly upgrade infrastructure to meet the demands of a modern system of education and realize its own vision, the College has regularly added new facilities to provide a comfortable working environment for its faculty and students. Full power back-up has been provided in the College to ensure that all activities are carried out without interruption. In an ongoing endeavour to create a disabled-friendly environment, the college has barrier free access to existing spaces.
About the Library
The Indraprastha College has a spacious library which strives to create a lively and enriching intellectual environment for students, faculty and staff members. It has a lift for PH access. The library is equipped with High- tech CCTV and Electronic Article Surveillance system to prevent pilferage. A book bank and customised software and reading materials in Braille for the visually challenged are available in the Library. The ICT centre with 80 computers is also located in the Library. An Audio-Visual Resource Centre is also attached to it.Its collections cater to both the students’ academic and recreational requirements. User-friendly fully computerized On-line Library catalogue is available for access to students. It has a reading hall with the capacity of 180 members.

Collection
Indraprastha College Library has a comprehensive collection of over 1, 12, 464 Books. This includes Fiction, Specialized in various Subjects, General, Reference books etc.6771 Bound Volumes of Journals, 21 sets of Encyclopedias, Dictionaries, Yearbooks etc. Over 100 Current National and International Journals and Magazines and 22 Daily Newspapers are available in the library. E-Journals are available in the library through University Wide Network.

LIBRARY RULES
Library is a place for individual study. It is necessary to maintain absolute silence and dignity inside and outside the library. I- Card will be confiscated and a fine of Rs. 500/- will be imposed for violation.
Library is equipped with High-Tech CCTV and Electronic Article Surveillance System to prevent the pilferage. Members are requested to follow the procedures and instructions to avoid any inconvenience.
The library will remain open from 8.30a.m. to 5.30p.m. On all working days (Monday to Friday). On Saturday it will remain open between 9.00a.m. to 2.00p.m. (Library will remain closed on Sundays and Gazetted Holidays).
(a) Students can become member of the library after getting their Identity Cards from the College Office/ Teacher In charge.
(b) Students are entitled to issue a maximum of five books.
(c) Those who lend or borrow Membership Card will not be allowed to use the Library. In case the Membership Card is lost, Duplicate Card will be issued against a payment of Rs. 100/-. But users would be held responsible for any loss which the library may suffer through loss or misuse of their Membership Card.
Students can renew their membership by showing college Identity Card.
(a) Books to the students from the library are issued for their respective courses only.
(b) Stack room: Books from this section are issued only for 15 days after showing their membership cards at the circulation counter. (Please ensure yourself that you have taken a maximum of 5 books).
(c) Before getting any book issued readers/ students should satisfy themselves that its pages are intact, if any page is missing, the counter clerk/ library staff should be informed and get the pages signed by them, failing which they will be held responsible for the missing pages and required to replace the book.
(d) Readers must return the issued books on or before the date last stamped (or within 15 days of the date of issue of the books). If the books are not returned in time, Reader's Library Membership Card will be blocked as per following:-
(i) Any book late upto two days : Card blocked for 4 days.
(ii) Any book late upto three days : Card blocked for one week.
(iii) Any book late upto one week : Card blocked for two weeks.
(iv) Any book late upto two weeks : Card blocked for one month.
(v) Any book late upto one month : Card blocked for three months.
(vi) Any book late over one month: Card would be confiscated and cancelled.
(For reactivation of card, students will contact to the Librarian or the Library Office).
Computers in the library are for academic purpose only. By University- Wide- Network Access Terminals, students can access e- journals.
(a) While entering into the library please keep your Issued books, Photocopy Materials, Files, Registers, Bags, Umbrella, Water Bottles etc. at the property counter since these materials are not allowed inside the library.
(b) Please don't leave your valuables e.g. Purse, Mobile Phones, Laptops etc at the property counter or at any other place in the library. The College/ library authorities will not be responsible for the loss, if any.
(a) Library catalogue is available for users. Users can search their books by Author, Title, Subject and other field.
(b) Near the circulation counter, two computer terminals are available for OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue). Here users can search their books by Title, Authors Name, Classified Number, Accession No., Subjects, and Publishers Name etc.
Books from this section are issued only for consultation within the library against membership cards.
All the students are to obtain a Clearance Certificate from the library before taking their University Roll Numbers or leaving the college. Failed students are required to return their Library Membership cards within one month from the date of declaration of the result, failing which they will not be issued the clearance in future.
(a) You are to enter the Library only with Membership Cards.
(b) Members are requested to see the library notice board for all the notifications and regulations.
(c) Issued Books, Photo-copy Materials, Files, Registers, Bags, Umbrella, etc., are not allowed inside the library.
(d) Readers are requested to keep their cell phones off inside the library.
(e) Issued Books and Bags are to be deposited at the Property Counter at your own risk while using the library. Money, Umbrella, Dresses, Cell Phones and other costly items are not to be kept at the property counter. The library staff will not be held responsible for the loss, if any.
(f) Readers are expected to leave the library 5 minutes before its scheduled time of closing.
NOTE: It is within the discretion of the library to take away all rights and privileges, if any member does not abide by the library rules.
